May 16th 2006 Fishing report by Capt. Kent Gibbens

It's really hard to believe that the year is now half over, the fishing has been really superb, to bad we can't say that for the weather.  The winds still are blowing and here we are at hurricanes season again.
The redfish are still schooled up in the Tomoka Basin as well as the river system, they seem to eat anything you throw at them if they are in the right mood, doesn't that sound familiar.  The best baits I have found recently have been gold spoon, bucktail jigs tipped with shrimp and jerk worms, Zoom Golden Brem, run them naked, no weight.
The Snook and Tarpon have been on the feed quite heavily and should only get better as the summer progresses.  Capt. Doug Buchanan reported the Snook do not seem to be around the downtown bridges, yet they are all over the High Bridge.
The Tarpon are everywhere in the river but they are mostly being there moody self and feeding at night on the full moon.
The creeks from Port Orange to Ponce Inlet are only fair at the present time but should start to pick up this month.  Some areas are ahead of schedule and some seem to be behind, just get out there and fish you will find them.

 Tight lines
