The Banana Rive is located between Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach. Like the rest of the Indian River Lagoon System it is not really a river but a small part of a larger estuary that run from Daytona Beach in the north to Jupiter in the south. The Banana River starts in north Titusville at Banana Creek and ends at Dragon Point in Melbourne. One big feature that makes the
Banana River stand apart for the rest of the Indian River is that a third of
this river is closed to the As far as fishing goes the Banana River is best know for the number of big redfish that has been caught there. The last 4 state record reds have been caught in this body of water. The Banana River is also well know for the big gator trout that have been caught here in the spring and early summer. In 2005 I had a client put on of the biggest trout I have ever seen in the boat. That fish weighed in at 16 pounds 8 oz. In addition to the great fishing the main part of the Banana River hold it is also home to the now world famous No Motor Zone. This part of the Banana River is located just north of the 528 causeway and stretches north to the 406 or NASA Causeway. Established in 1994 as a manatee sanctuary this area has proven to be some of the most incredible fishing for those willing to paddle its 10,500 acres.
